It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mom, and Oma. Hilda was born on December 24, 1934, in Cut Knife, SK, and passed away peacefully at the Pioneer House in Lloydminster, AB, on March 25, 2025, surrounded by family.

Hilda was predeceased by her parents Louie and Paula Kuffner; her son Kenny Bonnar; her son-in-law Don Malka; brothers Walter Kuffner and Blondie Kuffner; brothers-in-law Joe Wiltermuth, Art Vrolson, John Nicholson, George Bonnar, Peter Bonnar, John Bonnar; and sisters-in-law Ruth Kuffner, Terrie Bonnar, Anne Kuffner.

Mom lived a life devoted to family. She was never happier than when her kids and grandkids would pop by the house for a visit—usually to sneak a brownie or some potato salad. There were many rousing games of mini sticks with the kids, family meals, and words of wisdom in our best and worst times. It is impossible to put into words all she gave us. She was the anchor of the family and will be dearly missed.

At Mom’s request, no public service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pioneer House.

As a family, we would like to thank all of Mom’s caregivers including Dr. Plooy and the staff at the Pioneer Lodge/House. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

The Watcher by Margaret Widdemer

She always leaned to watch for us,

Anxious if we were late,

In winter by the window,

In summer by the gate.

And though we mocked her tenderly,

Who had such foolish care,

The long way home would seem more safe

Because she waited there.

Her thoughts were all so full of us,

She never could forget!

And so I think that where she is

She must be watching yet.

Waiting ‘til we come home to her,

Anxious if we are late,

Watching from Heaven’s window,

Leaning on Heaven’s gate.
