Jimmy Ambrus

Obituary of Jimmy Wayne Ambrus

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jim Wayne Ambrus. After a strong and courageous battle, Jim passed away peacefully on November 7th, 2025, surrounded by love and family in Lloydminster, Alberta. Jim’s infectious laughter, guidance, and unending humor brought joy to everyone around him and will be deeply missed.

Jim grew up in North Battleford, Sask, with his parents; Jim and Rose, and three younger siblings; Randy, Tim and Tammy.

In 1978, he Graduated from St. Thomas College in NorthBattleford, and the following year moved to Lloydminster where he married Darlene Burns, his high-school sweetheart. Together they created a beautiful family with four children; Chantelle, Jim, Adam and Krystelle, of which Jim was extremely proud. Upon moving to Lloydminster, Jim was hired on with Welex and Halliburton where he spent 11 years. Wanting to be closer to his family, Jim began his career with the City of Lloydminster in the early 90’s first in the Water and Sewer dept, then worked his way to Supervisor of Roadway Services Public Works, where he

remained until his illness. There was no doubt that Jim loved what he did, the people he worked with, as well as working with the public. He had a way of easing situations that left a lasting impression on everyone he came into contact with.

In his earlier years, Jim enjoyed hunting and golfing with his close friends, Rick and Al. He loved fishing with his children, and later, his grandsons. He was excited about family camping trips and backyard campfires. One of Jim’s passions were road trips on his Harley with his friends and later with his son Adam. There are great stories about trips to Sturgis, out to B.C. to visit family, and even just backroads around Lloyd.

Jim was known for his infectious laughter, his leadership, and his love for his family. Above all, Jim believed in the power of family and cherished his role as a father and grand father. Jim stories, insights, and thunderous laugh will live on in the hearts of so many who knew and loved him.

His memory lives on with his wife of 45 years; Darlene, his children; Chantelle, Jim (Amy), Adam (Melissa), and Krystelle (Dave), and his grandchildren; Kaden, Logan, Caleb, Nicholas, Levi, Brooke, Peyton, and Kinley. His mother and siblings, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and everyone who had the fortune of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Ambrus, his in-laws George and Anne Burns, his sister-in-law Theresa Burns, and brother-in-law Andy Burns.

Jim faced his long illness with words of wisdom and a joke—he reminded us every day that hope and humor can triumph over any diagnosis. We ask that you honor him by sharing a story and a laugh.

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We invite all those who knew him to join us in a celebration of his life summer 2026; further details will be shared by the family.
