Obituary of Ruby May MacMillan
Ruby May MacMillan, aged 89, died peacefully on Jan. 29, 2014 at the Wainwright General Hospital. She was born on May 2, 1924, in Irma, Alberta, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Jane Carrington. In 1943, she married Neil MacMillan and together they raised their children on a farm near Irma, Alberta. She enjoyed participating and watching sports; involvement in her Church, Royal Purple, and community; and was an avid supporter of her children’s endeavors. She resided in Irma until soon after Neil’s death in 1980 when she moved to Edmonton, where her life was blessed by special times with her sister Mildred Carrington. Partner John (Jack) Jewell, his family, and Bea Jewell also contributed greatly to her enjoyment of life. Ruby was a kind, caring, generous and selfless person, who lived her life graciously through all its grey and sunny skies. She will be lovingly remembered forever by her children: Elaine (Lorne) Vopni of Dallas TX, and their children Scott (Michelle) of Dallas TX, Brad (Jocelyn) and Jason of Brooklyn, NY; Cheryl (deceased) (Doug) Bell of Belleville ON, and their children Craig (Robin) of Brighton ON, C.J. (Laura) of Belleville ON, and Erin of Kingston ON; Karen (Marvin Schlosser) MacMillan and their sons Shaun and Jared of Calgary AB; and Blaine (Mary Lou) MacMillan of Irma AB, and their children Kelsey (Kyle) Garber of Foremost, AB, Janeece (Clark) MacKay of Camrose AB, Hilary of Edmonton AB, and Lucas of Irma AB; as well as eleven great-grandchildren. Feeling her loss is her sister-in-law Annetta Maguire of Vernon BC, one niece and four nephews, the family (and their families) of Jack Jewell (deceased). Ruby was predeceased by her husband Neil, daughter Cheryl, infant daughter Donna, brother Earl Carrington, sisters Marion Knudson and Mildred Carrington, brothers’-in-law Art Knudson and Robert Maguire, nephew Roy Knudson, and Jack Jewell. Let life be as beautiful as summer flowers And death as beautiful as autumn leaves.
