Obituary of Herbert Gerald Holtz

On Monday, March 3, 2014 Mr. Herbert Holtz of Lloydminster passed away at Dr. Cooke Extended Care at the age of 70 years. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place. Donations in memory of Herb may be made to the Lloydminster Men's Shelter 5001-48 Ave, Lloydminster S9V 0V8 Herbert Gerald Holtz October 17, 1943 to March 3, 2014 It is with great sadness that the family of Herbert Gerald Holtz announces his passing at the age of 70 at the Dr. Cooke Extended Care Centre in Lloydminster, Alberta. Herbert will be dearly missed by his brothers and sisters: Jennifer (Emerson) Klassen of Red Deer, AB Marilyn (Jim) Clarke of St. Paul, AB Lyle Holtz of Lloydminster, AB Ian Holtz of Edmonton, AB Tanya (Delbert) Metcalfe of Donalda, AB Dana (Karoline) Holtz of Lloydminster, AB Gina (Doug) Holtz of Carvel, AB As well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Herbert is predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Ruth (Brandon) Holtz, a baby brother Mark, and nephew Christopher Gilchrist. Herb was born in Calgary, AB and grew up on the farm near Botha, AB, the eldest of eight children. As a young man Herb held many different jobs, starting as a farm labourer for several years. He became a jack of all trades working on a drilling rig, custom lawn mower, truck washer and other odd jobs. Herb liked to work with machines most of all. He drove a gravel truck and a cat, and as a driver for a carnival. Herb’s proudest achievement was obtaining his Class 1 license and he loved to drive truck. It didn’t matter what the weather was like, or the time, Herb was always ready and willing to go. Herb will be admired for his determination and resilience. He always found a way to care for himself and provide for himself. Herb continually looked to the future and was even making plans for his custom mowing business this winter. Herb’s favourite pastimes were simple. He liked to have a good cup of coffee, a cigarette, and a good game of dice. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Herb left a legacy of love, laughter and friendship to all who knew him.
