Wallace William Stewart born June 16, 1946 to David & Gertrude Stewart. He passed away on August 23, 2024, at the age of 78.
Wallace “Wally” Grew up on the farm near Manville in the same yard as Jo & Vivian Stewart and their family. With lots of relatives and all his cousins close by, he enjoyed being raised on the farm.
Wallace chose to serve God in his youth. Wallace married and lived in Manville & Vermilion and had two children Bradley & Elaine.
Wallace wore many hats over the years being involved in the cabinet business, real estate, Simmental cattle, purebred horses, and then raising pure bred springer spaniels. Wallace grew up hunting and fishing and together with his family they had Greyhound dogs and many horses at brother Dave’s farm. They often hunted for geese, deer and coyotes.
Later Wallace moved to Airdrie and then into Calgary. At this time, he became a grandparent to four grandchildren Karalee, Braylin, Will and Carter. When he was called to inform him that he was going to become a Grampa, his first concern was that he thought it made him sound elderly. As it turns out this job of being “Grampa Wally” was quite fun, rewarding and something he was very proud to brag about.
His favorite career and the one he did the longest was owning and operating Homes by Wallce. He built custom homes in Calgary for many years. When we reflect on all the years Wallace built homes in NW Calgary, we must express appreciation to Pam Racz. Without Pam and her efforts in every part of Wallace’s life to keep him organized, he could not have enjoyed the many hobbies he loved, or left the office, or getting away on weekend when there were open houses. Not only did she assist with every part of the business’s operation; she also lent a hand with the care for Grampa Dave and Aunty Jean & Uncle Bill. Wallace’s son Brad would tell you she certainly was his second mother and provided lots of care and guidance while he lived in Calgary.
Wallace really enjoyed anything outdoors and always had an Argo, quad or snowmobile close at hand at all times. This meant he could head to the mountains in every season. He enjoyed guiding adventures for cougar and mountain sheep. Often times his kids worried if he ever had a incident it would likely be out in the mountains; but he had a good sense of direction that helped him come off the top of a mountain and successfully find his Dodge truck.
Fishing is a favorite which has been passed on to the next generation; he did lots of trips out to the coast, to Pincher Creek and to the Yukon for salmon. He loved playing and watching all sports and was a dedicated Hockey Fan. Tennis and golf were a favorite. Dogs and Dog trails were in every picture in his photo albums. Wallace gave both his kids their first family pets. “Brody” spent many years growing up with the girls in Vancouver; and Chinook and Abby grew up with the boys on the farm in Marwayne.
Wallace loved a good trip south to get warm and many golf and pickle ball games in Arizona. He even went to Scottland to see the relatives.
The thing he valued above all was his faith as he enjoyed going to fellowship meetings, Bible study every week and annual conventions.
In later years when Wallace’s health was failing many family members: Brothers Dave & Alex and their wives Lorreen & Alice as well as Scott, Brian, Carter & Robbie, to name a few all assisted in helping to keep him home, gopher hunting and having home cooked meals in Rene and Alice’s kitchens.
When he needed a different level of care, he was able to live at Viking Extended care and then come back to Vermilion Continuing Care where they took very good care of him. We appreciate all their efforts at both facilities.
Wallace will rest in Calgary where he will be buried at a location with a mountain view on one side, wheat field on the other and a golf course near by.
